DAWN E-Book on SRHR

Breaking Through the Development Silos: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Millennium Development Goals and Gender Equity, is a collection of case studies from Mexico, India and Nigeria. Learn how certain national poverty reduction strategies in the economic south have failed to challenge the root causes of gender inequality, have perpetuated gendered divisions of labor and have been very limited in integrating poverty and SRHR. Through this global research, DAWN demonstrate the phenomenon of "siloization” or the fragmentation and isolation of important social and human-rights issues from poverty agendas. This book provides useful evidence to support global advocacy on SRHR and gender equality in the context of the upcoming Cairo+20 and MDG+15 review processes in 2014 and 2015. Great article on American Academy of Pediatrics announcement

Last week the American Academy of Pediatrics reversed its neutral position on infant male circumcision to say that the science shows that the health benefits (HIV, penile cancer and HPV prevention, etc.) outweigh the risks. Here's a great piece about the rationale behind the change: http://blogs.discovermagazine. com/crux/2012/08/31/cut-the- penis-cut-the-risk-why- circumcision-is-a-good-choice/ Excerpt: So here’s one of those rhetorical devices that intactivists should appreciate: *Cut it out. *For every amazing prepuce you save, you’re adding an element of risk and uncertainty for the person attached to it. Nobody can possibly know what viral foes a man will come up against in his life, and if one of them is HIV, your crusade, admirable though you feel it is, may be costing some other parent their child’s life.
